Exercise is an important part of maintaining strong and healthy muscles and bones. Weight-bearing and resistance exercises, in particular, can help to improve muscle strength and bone density.

Weight-bearing exercises, such as running, jumping, or walking are activities that work against gravity and put stress on the bones, this helps to increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. High-impact exercises like jogging, tennis or jumping rope are examples of weight-bearing exercises.

Resistance exercises, such as weightlifting and bodyweight exercises, use resistance to stress the muscles and promote muscle growth. This can include exercises such as push-ups, pull-ups, squats and deadlifts. This can help increase muscle mass, improve muscle tone and overall strength.

It’s important to note that for most people, a combination of weight-bearing and resistance exercises is ideal for optimal muscle and bone health. Incorporating variety of exercises with progressive overload is also a key aspect.

Additionally, regular weight-bearing and resistance exercise helps improve balance, coordination, and flexibility which is important for overall physical function and reducing the risk of injury.

It’s recommended to consult with a doctor or physical therapist to ensure you’re doing the exercises that are safe and appropriate for your individual fitness journey.
